New York – Smith Georges, an accomplished Haitian-American artist, whose artwork has been published by Time Magazine, NY Times, college textbooks, and other distinguished publications, was introduced during the night of his March 4, 2008 HSBC sponsored art exhibit by Mr. Tony M. Border, Assistant Vice President & Sales Manager of HSBC at 120 Broadway Office. Mr. Border told the crowd about the long relationship that Mr. Georges has with HSBC Bank where four giclee paintings from his 12-part series “The Bull VS The Bear” are on display at the 120 Broadway HSBC branch. In addition to the Bull VS the Bear series, the artist also displayed "The Art Collector”, “Global Connection” and “A Hero/Angel is Born". Three other paintings by his brother Jackson Georges were also part of the evening's exhibit.
“I am honored and appreciative of HSBC’s sponsorship of my Bull VS The Bear art exhibit,” said Mr. Georges. “For the number of years that I have had an account with the bank, I have always been provided with excellent service. I am urging you to tell your friends and family members to open an account with HSBC,” he added. It was a night where customers, HSBC staff, friends, and family members gathered to appreciate the aesthetics of art and to immerse themselves in the creative world.
The artist acknowledged the presence of everyone who attended that evening by addressing the crowd in English and French. He extended his sincere thanks and appreciation to his friend Ms. Catherine Furman, the elegant blonde French Art Collector/Lover and Underwriting Associate, currently living and working in England, who flew from London just to attend this event. He also underscored the presence of Randy Garon, President of Garon Trading, Inc. the man who is seen walking in the artist’s series of the Bull VS the Bear paintings carrying two green bags of money and wearing his trade-mark-black jacket that features the American flag in the back. ”Who would have predicted the paintings of the late contemporary Neo- Expressionist Haitian-American artist Jean-Michel Basquiat would be in such great demand where they are being sold today for millions of dollars each on the international market. Investing in art is not just profitable, it’s also an investment in beauty,” remarked Georges.
The painting “A Hero/Angel is Born” was inspired by New York City Subway Hero Wesley Autrey’s selfless and heroic January 2, 2007 act. Mr. Autrey and family members were in attendance.
“I was so touched by Smith Georges' painting (A Hero/Angel is Born), it brought tears to my eyes,” said Autrey. The exhibit was coordinated by Smith Georges' agent, Rhiannon Kubicka of Bespoke Gallery (547 West 27th St, New York, NY 10001, e-mail: BeSpokeGallery@gmail.com) and Mr. Border, Assistant Vice President & Sales Manager of HSBC Bank USA, N.A. (120 Broadway, New York, NY 10271.)
The painting entitled “Global Connection” depicts HSBC and its global outreach. It shows the giant financial institution’s hexagon symbol beaming rays of excellent financial services all over the world. Within intersected circles representing the globe in motion, the artist captures architectural marvels and monuments that bring pride to nationals throughout all the continents. The artist used different hues of red and white to bring about necessary contrast and to create the illusion of distance and perspective. In the painting, you can see the London Bridge (England), The Empire State Building/Statue of Liberty (USA), the TaJ Mahal (India), the Coliseum (Italy), giant Statue of Buddha in Indonesia, The Wailing Wall/Western Wall (Jerusalem Israel), Church of Nativity (Bethlehem Palestine), Statue of O Cristo Redentor (Brazil), Eiffel Tour (France), Pyramid/Sphinx (Egypt), The Great Wall (China), Opera House (Australia), The Church of the Savior (St Petersburg, Russia), Chichen Itza (Mexico), Brj Al Arab (Dubai), etc… Smith Georges’ experience on September 11, 2001 while working for the American Stock Exchange, as well as the resiliency demonstrated by Wall Street and the rest of the country after 9/11, along with his observation of the daily activities in the Financial District area were all sources of inspiration that prompted him to create his well-known painting/collage “A Tribute to 9/11 Heroes”, and his 12-part series of “The Bull VS The Bear” fights. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please visit: www.ArtandFreeWorld.com www.NYCSubwayHero.net www.BeSpokeGallery.com ArtandFreeWorld.com copyright 2008
